Mental Health Practitioner, Drug & Alcohol Counselor

Supervised by:
Jessica Smith, MA, LMFT

I am completing my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Adler Graduate School to strengthen my counseling abilities and provide support to more individuals in our community.  I have been a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) since 2013 and have provided substance abuse services to adolescents and adults in both residential and outpatient settings. During my work, I recognized that in order to fully understand addiction, you also have to understand and address other aspects of the individual’s journey including anxiety, family dynamics, depression, traumas, and how the individual views the world.

I have a strong passion for working alongside clients during times of transition and change in their lives. Within my work as a counselor, I have found the importance in creating individual goals based on the client's needs and values, as we are more likely to challenge ourselves and identify obstacles when we value the process. Through personalization of therapy and a holistic approach, I am able to support and encourage clients to progress through the process of internal and external change.

My intention through an Adlerian lens is to develop a therapeutic alliance of support and feedback by promoting an increase in self-awareness.  An increase of self-awareness, and learning new ways to cope in life, allows us to pursue meaningful goals, healing, and happiness. Another area I enjoy exploring is connection with others and community.  I believe in the value of social interest and encourage my clients to seek support within a community that provides connection and similar values.

My clinical interests include addiction, anxiety, depression, adjustment disorders, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and behavioral management strategies with a DBT influence.

I enjoy spending quality time with family and friends, being outdoors, hiking, biking, working out, crafting, and reading.
