Kari Hammer, MA, LPC-S
Welcome to my bio and congrats on making the decision to seek support (proud of you!)
In July of 2024, I will complete my master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Marshall University and will begin working towards my Professional Clinical Counseling licensure (LPCC).
I enjoy working with individuals between the ages of 20 and 90 years old. I am passionate about walking alongside my clients through all seasons of their adult life, navigating the many life transitions that can often be distressing. I engage clients using multiple therapeutic interventions that tailor to each client’s current needs.
As a psychotherapist, my goal is to create a safe, nonjudgmental, shame-free space where clients can feel comfortable sharing the challenges that they are experiencing so together we can get beyond them. I desire for my clients to feel seen, heard and understood and I am open to meeting them wherever they are at. I bring with me care, compassion, kindness, and humor (when appropriate, of course!)
My clinical interests include depression, anxiety, identity exploration, personal growth, issues with self-esteem/confidence, difficulties in adjusting to new life situations, aging, family issues, grief/loss, bereavement, sexual abuse, LGBTQIA+, HIV/AIDS, terminal illness, trauma, and Sexual Offender treatment.
A little about me so you can ‘get to know me’: My purpose in life has always been to help people. I worked in the nonprofit sector for 25 years raising money for disease-related causes before becoming a therapist. My friends would describe me as attentive, a good listener, caring, and sometimes funny. I love listening to music, walking/hiking/biking, talking with friends, family and loved ones, and being anywhere doing anything by water (pools, lakes, oceans; I love them all!)
It would be an honor to walk alongside you. Reach out!
